Time to serve up the dinner. This evenings menu was a choice (made ahead
of time) of either Marsale Chicken or Tri Tip beef, served with mashed potatoes and gravey, green beans, salad, fruit salad and bread and butter and for dessert we had lemon merengue pie.
Under the direction of Foy, KK6UM, tables were selected to "fall in line" for the food, keeping a reasonable order at the serving line.
Remember Jean, KC6VYO? Her OM is Manny, KK6DS in the green on the left side above getting to know Bill and others. Manny kept track of dinners and choices. We were surprised at the finish with only 4 extra meals left over. Since two of our group was unable to attend, serving some 60 meals with only 4 left over was a real tracking record.
Normally we never complain about dessert, but for the past several years we selected the lemon pie but our "substitute" was spiced cake. For "this" meal we "insisted" LEMON PIE or we will deduct 20% of the cost. Guess what?
The "View from the Inside". The food was very good, enjoyed by all present.
The food arrived from the caterers HOT and ready to serve.
Judy Joyce (xyl to Richard, W6VQC, is at the piano and we had two sing-a-longs with. It was fun and all enjoyed that. Manny, KK6DS on the right was having as much fun directing as the rest of us. What a great evening.
"Did you hear the one about the 3 Hams that were lost in the desert?"
...... "How do you greet a Ham? Give him a short wave"......
Ed Watts, KI6DCB with a string of jokes, some of which may have been a little too "hammy", but all a lot of fun, following the Piano and sing-a-long
Listening to the jokes along with the rest of us are the Barber Shop Quartet just waiting for their turn.
More of our group enjoying the jokes from Ed. Here its between jokes while they catch up on the jokes.
More of our group enjoying their evening. Dinner was great and the piano and singing were great, and now the jokes are great while we await the final presentation of entertainment.
The Quartet "harmonized" great and topped out with a surprise of their own.
After a number of songs, they asked for a short break, while a few more jokes were used to fill in the time. When they "re-appeared" there was a roar of laughter from the group. See below to see why!
Here our group of doctors and a nurse, address a "patient" to a modified tune of "I'm getting nuthing for Christmas". Can you figure out which one is the nurse? (played by our own Bruce, W7OBR)
Following the entertainment, the Club presented our yearly award, the "HOTY" award, otherwise known as the "Ham of the Year" award. Above, Carl Gardenias, WU6D, the ARRL Orange Section Manager, and also an Honorary Club member, presents the award to Bob Farver, W6CCT. Bob is the club treasurer as well as the Hemet RACES EC, a division of the Riverside RACES group. Bob's also assisted the local AMR (Ambulance Services) in establishing Amateur HF, VHF and UHF radio emergency communications between Riverside, Hemet and Palm Springs. If thats not enough, Bob's wife and daughter now have their Ham tickets. Bob is a General and operates HF thru UHF from home and mobile.
Bob is in the center, with club president Ron Baker, WA6AZN on the right.
Preceeding the entertainment, a number of great door prizes were given out, which included cash, dinner tickets, and a couple of "surprise" packages.
A special drawing was held for a painting donated by Therona Farver. You would need to see this painting to appreciate it, and the time and quality that went into it. This was won by Manny, KK6DS.
The Lee DeForest ARC wants to thank everyone not only for their participation in the dinner, but all those who donated time and money, the printing of special tickets, rosters, collecting the money for the dinner, and so much more, to make the dinner possible.
Behind the lines were those taking care of dinner arrangements, like place and time, ordering the meals, taking information on the tickets so each person got what he or she ordered and of course those who braved the terrible weather to attend. It rained all day, and the puddles were deep in places, and even with all the rain, attendance was nearly 100%. Thanks everyone for all you did to bring about a great evening. .
A really "RARE" photo of Ron, WA6AZN cleaning up those wet floors and of course, after everyone else left. After all, the club prez didn't want anyone to see what his board of directors told him he had to do if he wanted to eat dinner. Tsk tsk tsk. The life of a club president. Notice he even knows how to "multi-task". My my, such talent. (just kidding of course, cause this evening was a wonderful and great time.)
Elected for THE 2009 year of fun were the following, same as last year.
Ron, WA6AZN President
Foy, KK6UM VP
Mary, KG6IXC Secretary
Bob, W6CCT Treasurer

Richard, W6VQC
