Hemet, California, is loated in Riverside County, about 70 miles East of Los Angeles, and about 35 miles South by East of Riverside, California.  Our joining cities are San Jacinto which is our border city to our North and East, and Homeland on our West.  Close by cities include Idyllwild in the nearby mountains to our East, Banning to our North, and Anza and Temecula to our South.  We are about 13 miles from Interstate highway 215 which runs North and South and is to our West, and about 20 miles from Interstate highway 10, to our North in Banning.

Population as of January 2008 is estimated at 65,000

Hemet is primarily a retirement city, but over the years the population has expanded to include a wide variety of ages from toddlers to retired.  We have the usual compliment of shopping including Sears, JC Penny, K-Mart, Wal-Mart and other well known names, and the usual fast food chains like McDonald, Taco Bell, Jack-In-The-Box, Carl's Jr., Weinersnitzel, In-N-Out and Burger King to mention a few.

Although Hemet has a substantial number of shopping sites available, such as car dealerships, drug stores, and so on, additional shopping is available in Temecula, about a 25 mile drive to our south.  There you will find multiple malls with just about everything from "A" to "Z".

Located just south of Hemet by several miles is the newly completed "Diamond Valley Lake reservoir, which is being filled with water at this time. (June 2000).  When filled to capacity it will hold some 800,000 acre feet of water making it the largest reservoir in the state of California.  This reservoir will be able to supply water demands during serious water shortages.  A photo of the reservoir will be available in the near future from this page.

Hemet enjoys an almost constant Southerly wind, and because it is located in what is called the "low desert", a faily hot summer and cool to cold winter.  It is not too unusual to see ice in the winter time, and to reach summer temperatures of 110 or more.  However, the low humidity helps a lot.

Although the QRZ listings show nearly 500 Hams in Hemet and surrounding area, not all are active in ham radio, some are retired, others visit in th "Winter", and others just "Ham around!"
