Hemet Fire Department Open House
October 4th, 2003
Note: Although this is an "older page" we are keeping it to show that the City of
Hemet holds an open house with the Fire Department at times and the public is invited.
You will also see photos of members of the Hemet City of RACES (since disolved) in the
mobile trailer used for emergency communications.
The photos below were taken during the Hemet Fire Departments Open House day held Saturady October 4th, 2003. Most photos are self explanatory and do not have captions. Several had added text to help identify them. The event was open to the public and featured "hands on" with CO2 extinguishers to fight a real fire (ignited fuel oil in a tub), especially for the youth, as well as a water hose and fake fire for the youth (and some adults) to "try their hand".
Hot dogs and chips were supplied by the Fire Department. Several "demos" were in session in the area along with displays of various items. One of the final demos was using the "Jaws of Life" in a simulated two-car crash you will see at the end.
The Hemet RACES group was well represented not only by the "trailer" but by many of the RACES members. Rod (N6CG) had an HF rig set up inside the trailer, as well as a setup by Ed with Packet Radio, and a 2 meter transceiver tuned to the local repeater.
In the photos you will also see one with the "Before & After" as they called it, with Craig and David, and another photo with Craig and Joe Glenn from the City. From the attendance, it was easy to see that it was well attended. Although we came across Fire Chief Stacey, we did not get photos of him.
